ph3ISP Secondary Subject Specialism Teacher /h3 h3Purpose of Role /h3 pTo be a dynamic and inspirational teacher of your specialist subject with in-depth knowledge and a real passion for this subject. Effective planning and delivery of creative and dynamic lessons to all age groups from Key Stage 3 through to A Level is paramount, as is promoting the application of your subject knowledge through a wide range of engaging, practical activities. You should have experience teaching the exam syllabus for your subject at both GCSE and A Level and will strive to maintain the high standards set in this subject, promoting inquisitive, reflective and independent learning and supporting all pupils to reach their own individual goals. You should be a strong team player with a practical and flexible approach to problem‑solving, keen to play a leading role in the continuing development and improvement of your subject and in the implementation of new learning initiatives across the school. /p h3Role Specific Duties /h3 ul liResponsible for teaching your specialist subject throughout the Secondary School (Key Stage 3–5, if required on timetable). /li liRaise awareness of and actively promote your subject through a range of curricular, cross‑curricular and extra‑curricular activities. /li liPromote your subject as an excellent option at IGCSE/AS and A Level. /li liEnsure that your subject department is adequately resourced to meet pupil needs and course requirements and that technological resources are used appropriately. /li liCreate an inspiring learning environment for your specialist subject. /li liProduce, enhance and constantly develop learning schemes for your specialist subject. /li liSupport teaching staff with help and training in your specialist subject. /li /ul h3ISP Principles /h3 ul liBegin with our children and students: their success is our success. We positively engage with personal and professional development and school improvement. /li /ul h3ISP Teacher Key Responsibilities /h3 ul liAdhere to global ISP Principles and follow the criteria set out in the ISP Teacher Role Profile. /li liUnder the reasonable direction of the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team, carry out professional duties of a school teacher as set out in the current UK Teachers’ standards document. /li liBe accountable for leading, managing and developing teaching and learning in your key stage in line with age‑related curriculum objectives and school policies. /li liCarry out the role of a form tutor, monitoring and supporting the personal and academic needs of your tutor group. /li liThis post receives 20% of the teaching timetable (8/40 periods of 40 minutes) as PPA time during which staff may be asked to cover for absences when needed. /li /ul p(*Please note that for non‑tutors, this equates to 6/40 periods) /p h3Strategic Responsibilities /h3 ul liSupport other staff to develop their expertise in planning and teaching in your curriculum area via the Leading the Learning programme. /li liRecord, analyse and interpret data in partnership with the Senior Leadership Team to set targets, raise achievement levels and take appropriate action within your subject area. /li liTake responsibility for learning development in your year group and key stage, contributing to the whole‑school Learning Improvement Process and to the review and development of Learning Priorities. /li liRegularly reflect on performance and the impact of learning in your classroom by fully engaging in the leading the learning process (at least 6 LTL visits per year) and setting individual targets via the school’s self‑evaluation programme. /li /ul h3Teaching Responsibilities /h3 ul liIdentify clear teaching objectives and specify how they will be taught and assessed. /li liSet engaging tasks that challenge pupils and ensure high levels of interest. /li liEstablish high expectations for all pupils. /li liProvide regular verbal and written feedback, setting clear targets and encouraging reflection to improve learning. /li liIdentify SEN pupils (including high achievers) and ensure their needs are met; differentiate tasks accordingly. /li liProvide clear lesson structures by setting objectives, maintaining pace, motivation and challenge. /li liUse assessment effectively to cover topics, yearly objectives and exam syllabi. /li liMaximise the quality and quantity of learning in the classroom through effective teaching strategies. /li liMonitor and intervene to ensure effective learning and high standards of behaviour. /li liEnsure pupils acquire new learning and receive ample opportunities to consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding. /li liEvaluate your own teaching critically to improve effectiveness and encourage pupils to reflect on their learning experience. /li /ul h3Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting /h3 ul liAssess achievement of learning objectives and use results to improve teaching. /li liReview and correct pupils’ work, setting targets for progress. /li liRecord pupils’ progress systematically, keeping data to check understanding and inform future planning. /li liDevelop and apply clear criteria for awarding grades and attainment levels. /li liPrepare and record data for pupil progress reports and present to parents at formal consultations. /li /ul h3Pastoral Care and Safeguarding /h3 ul liAssist in the role of a form tutor when needed, attending to the pastoral needs of an allocated forms group. /li liMonitor the welfare and general well‑being of all students. /li liCarry out termly reviews and set targets to improve progress, supported by the tutor and associate tutor. /li liAddress pupil concerns by referring to form tutors and/or Key Stage Leader. /li liPromote school values and ensure compliance with school rules. /li liAccurately record attendance and punctuality data; report concerns to the Key Stage Leader/Head of Secondary. /li liAssist with the preparation and delivery of the PSHE curriculum as directed by the Head of Secondary. /li liHelp to plan and participate in assemblies during the school year. /li liImmediately report safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or a member of the safeguarding team via the school Myconcern platform. /li /ul h3Operational Responsibilities /h3 ul liAdhere to and promote school policies and procedures (e.g., Behaviour for Learning, Anti‑bullying, Health Safety, Safeguarding). /li liShare ideas on good practice with fellow staff. /li liKeep up to date with developments in teaching practice and methodology. /li liShare playground and lunchtime duties and responsibilities with the team. /li liParticipate in continued professional development. /li liBe an active member of the school community to support its vision and dedication to constant improvement. /li /ul h3Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience /h3 ul liQualified Teacher Status (PGCE, BEd or equivalent). /li liDegree level education or an equivalent professional qualification. /li /ul h3Essential Knowledge, Skills and Competencies /h3 ul liReal passion for your specialist subject and a desire to constantly improve pupils’ learning experience. /li liThorough knowledge of your subject curriculum in Key Stages 3–5. /li liKnowledge of a wide range of strategies to engage pupils and cater for diverse learning needs. /li liExperience preparing pupils for official external examinations (IGCSE and/or A Level). /li liWillingness to be flexible and adapt to the ever‑changing needs of the school and pupils. /li liEnthusiasm and commitment to the successful development of your subject department. /li /ul h3ISP Commitment to Safeguarding Principles /h3 pISP is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
