ph3Job Title /h3 pRespiratory Therapist PRN RRT/CRT /p h3Supervised By /h3 pRespiratory Therapy Director /p h3Job Summary /h3 pUnder the supervision of the Respiratory Therapy Director, the Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing cardiopulmonary care services in accordance with specific physician’s orders, department policies and procedures. /p h3Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas /h3 ul liMaintains knowledge of the various methods of oxygen delivery, including the necessary equipment. Remains alert to and assesses possible side effects to oxygen delivery. /li liAdministers respiratory therapy treatments, understands the purpose of each and the possible side effects associated with each. /li liSets-up and monitors invasive and non-invasive ventilators and the associated critical care duties required for such treatment, such as airway management, tracheal suctioning, and endotracheal intubation. /li liAble to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation. Makes appropriate physician contact for intervention. /li liPerforms arterial punctures to obtain arterial blood samples for blood gas analysis, and understands the possible complications and contraindications associated with the procedure. /li liFollows departmental equipment sterilization procedures. /li liDocuments all pertinent data on the patient’s medical record following completion of any service. /li liMaintains a thorough knowledge of all departmental forms, flow charts, logbooks and their proper usage. /li liPerforms EKGs, sends reports to physicians who requested them and files reports in department, according to department procedures. /li liDemonstrates knowledge and understanding of the differences in techniques and treatment modalities as performed on patients of varying ages, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients, as well as the general patient population. /li liDemonstrates knowledge and understanding of oxygen concentrations and medication doses as they relate to patients of varying ages, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients. /li liFollows the seven medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. /li liPerforms all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. /li liSupports and maintains a culture of safety and quality. /li liManages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently. /li liMaintains thorough knowledge of hazards of oxygen therapy. /li liFormulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs of a patient and evaluates effectiveness of learning, patient’s family is included in teaching as appropriate. /li liTreats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and that hospital policy is followed. /li liDemonstrates ability to assess patient, his/her need, and ability to tolerate treatment and reassessment for response to treatment. /li liAttends education inservice programs to maintain professional competency. Obtains appropriate hospital-specific education and training. /li liPerforms all additional duties as assigned by the department manager. /li /ul h3Professional Requirements /h3 ul liAdheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean. /li liCompletes annual education requirements. /li liMaintains regulatory requirements. /li liMaintains patient confidentiality at all times. /li liReports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time. /li liWears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly. /li liCompletes inservices and returns in a timely fashion. /li liAttends annual review and department inservices, as scheduled. /li liAttends 12 staff meetings annually, or reads and returns all staff meeting minutes. /li liRepresents the organization in a positive and professional manner. /li liActively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. /li liComplies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. /li liCommunicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department. /li /ul h3Regulatory Requirements /h3 ul liCurrent State Respiratory Therapist Licensure. /li liGraduate of an AMA-approved School of Respiratory Therapy. /li liSuccessful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation certification. /li liCurrent ACLS certification. /li liThree or more years of previous experience in all aspects of cardiopulmonary services, preferred. /li /ul h3Language Skills /h3 ul liAble to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. /li liAdditional languages preferred. /li liStrong written and verbal skills. /li /ul h3Skills /h3 ul liBasic computer knowledge. /li /ul h3Physical Demands /h3 ul liNormal hospital environment. Normal/corrected eyesight. Hearing within normal range. Frequent sitting and walking. May lift up to 100 pounds. Carry up to 50 pounds. Pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds.
