The Product Launch Buyer will be responsible for supplier evaluation, cost estimation, sourcing, and delivery coordination for Bill of Materials (BOMs). This role will work closely with suppliers and internal teams to ensure timely procurement and secure component sourcing approval through PPAP approval. The role reports to the Supply Chain Supervisor/Manager.Pay & BenefitsAbove-market base payDay‑1 Medical coverage with no monthly premium potentialOn‑site health clinic for employees and dependents (age 14+)Dental, Vision, Life, AD&D, and Disability coverageTuition Reimbursement Program after 18 months401(k) retirement savings plan with matching programCompany‑paid holidays and vacation starting Day1ResponsibilitiesSourcing and procurement activities to meet program timing and commercial targets.Prepare RFQs, summarize, and present quotations for prototype and production supply.Develop strategy and timing for procurement of new components.Identify, qualify, and develop new suppliers to achieve program goals.Support supplier risk assessment evaluations and mitigation actions.Adhere to commodity strategies and report progress against KPI metrics.Follow the supplier selection process to recommend optimal source selection based on value, risk, sustainability, quality, and delivery.Present proposals to the global sourcing review board or local committee.Interface with suppliers to optimize value and feasibility, interpreting feedback on specifications and blueprints.Communicate proposed changes to stakeholders and present component design proposals.Procure pre‑production samples and approval samples (First Article or PPAP) and drive suppliers to meet program requirements.Compile Program Gate review content and communicate status to Program Management and launch teams.Coordinate design and technical reviews for new components in preparation for sourcing.Facilitate reviews of component and feasibility feedback from suppliers with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Logistics.Estimate costs for new components and maintain costed BOMs and BOM cost history.Send and track RFQs for prototype and production incorporating global and local sourcing strategies.Estimate and maintain a tooling budget per program; issue tooling purchase orders and ensure documentation is received before payment.Consider logistics costs in value‑stream mapping for source selections.Work with Finance to monitor blocked invoices and ensure timely vendor payments.Negotiate complex contracts and long‑term agreements for new production components.Continuously reduce component costs through negotiations, Value Analysis/Value Engineering, process analysis, and supplier selection.Support Design‑For‑Value activities to obtain optimal design and cost for components.Develop and maintain new suppliers meeting BW cost, quality, and delivery requirements.Coordinate and facilitate supplier relationships with internal functions.Provide status updates for Program Gate Reviews and other intermediate reviews.Lead prototype procurement meetings with Engineering, Logistics, and Prototype Model Shop.Lead supplier selection meetings and present recommended suppliers.Support We Are Ready launch audits and conform to the Global Sourcing Policy process and requirements.Ensure compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental policies.Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business or related field.2–5 years of purchasing experience, preferably in an automotive environment.Strong understanding of purchasing, negotiation, commercial analysis, and cost breakdown.Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong presentation and negotiation abilities.Ability to read and interpret drawings/blueprints.Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.ERP/MRP experience preferred (SAP a plus).Industry knowledge in automotive processes and components is preferred; engineering background is a plus.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and proficiency in English.Team‑oriented, follows instructions, and adheres to safety rules and regulations.Equal Employment OpportunityBorgWarner is an equal employment opportunity employer such that all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.Environmental Health & SafetyThis position will adhere to the BorgWarner Environmental Health and Safety Program by following all safety rules, procedures, practices, training, and the safe use of equipment, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
