ppDescription /p pJob Title: Nuclear Medicine Technologist PRN /p pSupervised by: Radiology Manager /p h3Job Summary /h3 pPrepares, measures and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in diagnostic and therapeutic studies. Performs and assists with nuclear medicine studies. Is responsible for patient safety protocols. Maintains all federal, state, local and regulatory agency requirements. Participates in CQI activities. /p h3Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas /h3 ul liPrepares stock solutions of radiopharmaceuticals and materials; calculates and administers doses under the direct supervision of a Radiologist. /li liResponsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients. /li liResponsible for safe handling of equipment. /li liInstructs and prepares patients for Nuclear Medicine examinations. /li liSelects appropriate equipment to use for procedure. /li liFollows the seven (7) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. /li liCalibrates equipment. /li liPerforms diagnostic exams on patients as prescribed by physician. /li liUses scanners or scintillation cameras for detection of radiation emitted to produce image of an organ. /li liMeasures radioactivity using Geiger counters, scalers and scintillation detectors. /li liFollows radiation safety techniques and policies in the use and disposal of radioactive materials. /li liAble to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention. /li liResponsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing exams. /li liPerforms all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. /li liSupports and maintains a culture of safety and quality. /li liMaintains department stock and orders supplies as needed. /li liPositions and shields patients accordingly. /li liFollows the principle of ALARA. /li liKeeps procedure room clean and neat, makes minor equipment adjustments as needed. /li liPractices medical and surgical aseptic procedures. /li liAssists in maintaining basic records and reports. /li liAssists in maintaining files. /li liAssists in training of students and ancillary staff. /li liTakes calls, after regular department hours. /li liCompiles and maintains quality assurance information. /li liInteracts professionally with patient/family. /li liHas knowledge of facility policies and the functions of other departments. /li liCompletes all work before clocking out and leaving. This includes checking with nurses’ stations. /li liProvides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population. /li liPerforms other duties as requested. /li /ul h3Professional Requirements /h3 ul liMeets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean. /li liCompletes annual educational requirements. /li liMaintains regulatory requirements. /li liReports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time. /li liConsistently completes and maintains assigned duties; maintains PAR levels. /li liWears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly. /li liAttends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled. /li liAttends 12 staff meetings; or reads and returns all staff meeting minutes. /li liMaintains hospital requirements, policies and standards on confidentiality. /li liKnowledgeable of local fire and safety regulations. /li liRepresents the organization in a positive and professional manner. /li liActively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. /li liComplies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. /li liCommunicates the mission, ethics and goals of the Hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department. /li /ul h3Requirements /h3 h3Regulatory Requirements /h3 ul liHigh School graduate; BS degree preferred. /li liGraduation from approved school of Radiology Sciences with certification in nuclear medicine. Licensed in Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. /li liCertified by the State of Arkansas to practice and administer radiopharmaceuticals. /li liCurrent BLS Certification. /li /ul h3Language Skills /h3 ul liAble to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. /li liAdditional languages preferred. /li /ul h3Skills /h3 ul liBasic computer knowledge. /li /ul h3Physical Demands /h3 ul liExposure to radiological hazard-occupational levels. Normal hospital environment. Close visual/acuity. Hearing within normal range. Oral communication. Operates Nuclear Medicine machines, injectors, computer, telephone, stretchers, wheelchairs, IV poles and patient monitoring devices. /li liLifting up to 50 pounds. /li liCarrying up to 25 pounds. /li liPushing/pulling up to 400 pounds. /li liFrequent sitting, standing, walking, and bending. /li liThis position is a safety sensitive position pursuant to Amendment 98 to the Arkansas Constitution § 2(25).
