The role requires full-time dedication, a deep commitment to IBEC’s mission and values, and strong leadership in a research environment. /p h3Desired Skills And Expertise /h3 ul liDistinguished record of international scientific excellence. /li liExceptional leadership skills and a proven capacity for effective team management. /li liCommitted to knowledge transfer and innovation, with ability to think strategically and collaborate with industry. /li liOutstanding scientific vision, integrity, communication skills, administrative abilities, energy, and motivation. /li liExcellent people‑management skills with commitment to staff development. /li liProven experience leading dynamic research organisations, including strategic planning, resource allocation and priority setting. /li liAbility to represent the institute across academic, industrial, political, and social spheres. /li liIn‑depth knowledge of international research systems, especially European programmes. /li /ul h3Essential Duties And Responsibilities /h3 ul liDefine and implement IBEC’s strategic plan and research activity program; submit to the Board of Trustees and coordinate execution. /li liGuarantee financial sustainability; secure income sources such as competitive funds and private sponsors. /li liCo‑supervise economic activities with the Administrative Director and oversee scientific human‑resources management, including selection and appointment of research positions. /li liRepresent IBEC at official and social events in coordination with the President and other Board members. /li liLead strategic development and foster a stimulating environment for top research in bioengineering. /li liProvide leadership for research units and ensure excellence of all IBEC activities. /li liDirect, organize and manage research, training and internal organisation of the institute. /li liPropose new research lines and funding opportunities to the Board. /li liMaintain regular communication with I‑CERCA, Generalitat de Catalunya, universities and other partners regarding progress. /li liPromote creation of value from research and establish internationally competitive laboratories. /li liExplore and foster new partnerships nationally and internationally to increase impact. /li liAct as spokesperson and communicator to key stakeholders, including funders, politicians and journalists. /li liGuide all institute members, especially strategic, technology transfer, academic and technical departments. /li liSupport training, career development and mentoring at all levels in line with IBEC’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion program. /li liAppoint Administrative Director, deputy directors, unit, service, laboratory, department, academic and program managers and scientific advisors as appropriate. /li liApprove internal rules of operation jointly with the Administrative Director and in agreement with the Board of Trustees. /li liLead evaluation of the centre and participate in the periodic CERCA evaluation and engagement with the CERCA system. /li /ul h3Contract Duration And Other Benefits /h3 pThe Director will be appointed on an open‑ended contract, with renewal after five years upon evaluation. The mandate may be extended by Board agreement. Short‑listed candidates will be invited to submit a vision statement and have a final interview with the commission.
