Setting and ReportingThe United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty.ResponsibilitiesContributes to the development and nurturing of strategic partnerships primarily with financial institutions, including banks, fintechs, insurance companies, foundations, asset managers and wealth management institutions (including private banks and family offices), pension funds, and academic endowment managers, to fundraise for the Local2030 Coalition and the Joint SDG Fund’s portfolio on SDG Localization.Forges relationships with other organizations in the Private Sector, being Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) at both regional and global levels and sovereign wealth funds.Supports the development of relationships with Member States to fundraise for SDG localization catalytic initiatives.Collaborates closely with the Joint SDG Fund to update the SDG localization marker, review joint programmes to enhance the SDG localization dimensions, and support UNCTs in the use of the marker to access catalytic funds for SDG localization.Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.Researches, analyzes, and presents information gathered from diverse sources.Assists in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations, or other research activities and studies.Prepares various written outputs, e.g., draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies and inputs to publications.Provides substantive support to consultative and other meetings plus conferences, including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants and preparation of documents, presentations.Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.Develops and manages knowledge platforms and other web-based information management systems; performs other duties as required.Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation, and reporting.Performs other duties as required.CompetenciesProfessionalism: Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts, and approaches relevant to local governance and local development, localization of the SDGs, the New Urban Agenda, and other international development agendas. Ability to identify funding sources, match funding needs (programmes/projects/initiatives) with funding opportunities, and establish a plan to meet funding requirements. Knowledge and ability to forge multi-stakeholder partnerships, and remove any obstacles to resource mobilization and multi-stakeholder funding platforms. Ability to identify issues, analyze and participate in the resolution of issues/problems. Ability to develop, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with others inside or outside the organization who can provide information, assistance, and support. Conceptual analytical and evaluative skills to conduct independent research and analysis, including familiarity with and experience in the use of various research sources, including electronic sources on the internet, intranet, and other databases. Ability to apply judgment in the context of assignments given, plan own work and manage conflicting priorities. Ability to analyze and interpret data in support of decision making and convey resulting information to management. Takes responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.EducationAdvanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in public administration, economics, political sciences, international development, multilateral relations, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.Work ExperienceA minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable development, multilateral development cooperation, financing for local governance, local development or related area is required. Experience working with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its implementation at the local level is required. Experience with resource mobilization is required. Experience in developing, maintaining, strengthening partnerships and coordinating networks of partners is required. Experience in working in large multi-cultural environments is desirable. Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.AssessmentEvaluation of qualified candidates for this position may include a substantive assessment which will be followed by a competency-based interview.Special NoticeAppointment against this post is for an initial period of one (1) year and may be subject to extension. Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her.
