Process Safety Manager: Location: Madrid, Spain Project Phase: Pre-FEED, FEED & Project Execution Overview: We are seeking a Process Safety Manager to lead the development and implementation of process safety strategies on a large-scale green ammonia project. The role will focus heavily on pre-planning and planning phases, ensuring safe design from concept through to execution. Key Responsibilities: Process Safety Strategy & Planning: Develop and implement the process safety framework during early project phases Define process safety philosophies, design criteria, and standards aligned with international regulations Ensure integration of inherently safer design principles across the project Hazard Identification & Risk Management: Lead and facilitate HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, and QRA studies Identify major accident hazards associated with hydrogen and ammonia production, storage, and handling Ensure appropriate risk mitigation measures are implemented in design Functional Safety & Systems: Define and oversee Safety Instrumented System requirements Review and approve ESD systems, fire & gas detection, and protection systems Ensure alignment with project safety integrity levels and lifecycle requirements Pre-Planning & Design Integration: Act as a key interface between engineering, process, and project teams Ensure process safety is embedded into design reviews, P&IDs, and layout development Support selection of technologies for electrolysis, hydrogen handling, and ammonia synthesis Regulatory & Compliance: Ensure compliance with European and Spanish regulations Support preparation of safety cases, HAZID reports, and regulatory submissions Interface with authorities and third-party auditors as required Requirements: Degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline 5+ years’ experience in process safety within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Hydrogen, or similar industries Proven experience in large-scale CAPEX projects, ideally from concept through FEED Strong knowledge of: Hydrogen and/or ammonia processes Process safety methodologies Functional safety standards
