Amentum is seeking a highly skilled Naval Architect to join our team in Rota, Spain, supporting the Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center (FDRMC). This role offers a unique opportunity to directly impact the structural integrity and survivability of forward-deployed U.S. Navy vessels operating in the 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility. As part of a mission-driven team, you will provide critical expertise in hull, structural, and coating systems—supporting inspections, casualty response, and repair planning in a dynamic, high-tempo environment. If you are passionate about naval engineering and want to contribute to Fleet readiness on a global stage, this position offers both challenge and purpose.Essential ResponsibilitiesProvide Fleet Technical Assistance (FTA) to evaluate and resolve casualties involving hull, structural, and coating systemsConduct on-site (OS) and distant support (DS) inspections of hulls, tanks, voids, and structural members to assess damage and develop repair recommendationsPerform scheduled and unscheduled system assessments in support of TSRA, ICMP, INSURV, and other readiness evaluationsEvaluate corrosion, structural degradation, and coating system performance, and recommend corrective actionsSupport Engineering Technical Branch (ETB) operations, including ship stability calculations and monitoring during casualties, drills, or emergent eventsParticipate in ETB drills and training, and respond to casualty events, including weekends and holidays as requiredProvide logistics support, including material identification and repair requirement developmentDeliver on-the-job training (OJT) and technical guidance to ship’s force personnel on inspection and maintenance practicesDocument findings using Navy systems (e.g., MFOM/NMD, FTS, CADET, MAFs) and prepare formal reports/debriefs in accordance with JFMM standardsRecommend updates to technical documentation, including Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRCs), manuals, and drawingsObtain and utilize technical documentation from FDRMC Technical Library, OEM sources, and other repositoriesTravel as required to support forward-deployed naval forces across multiple OCONUS locationsMinimum RequirementsDemonstrated experience in the inspection of U.S. Navy shipboard hull, structural, and coating systemsAbility to perform structural assessments, corrosion evaluations, and repair planningKnowledge of ship stability principles and ability to support stability calculations during casualty responseFamiliarity with Navy maintenance and reporting systems such as MFOM/NMD, FTS, MAFs, and CADETAbility to interpret and apply technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentationWillingness to complete the Shipboard Corrosion Assessment Technician course within 6 months of hireAbility to obtain and maintain CADET database access upon onboardingAbility to work independently at a journeyman level in a fast-paced operational environmentWillingness and ability to travel frequently, including extended OCONUS and shipboard assignmentsAbility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearanceStrong written and verbal communication skillsPreferred Qualifications (not required)Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related engineering disciplineExperience supporting U.S. Navy surface ships or submarines, particularly in forward-deployed environmentsFamiliarity with Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) and NAVSEA standardsExperience supporting TSRA, INSURV, ICMP, or pre-deployment assessmentsBackground in corrosion control programs and coating system managementExperience conducting dry-docking assessments and structural inspectionsProficiency with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, FEMAP, or similar modeling/analysis softwarePrior experience supporting Fleet Technical Assistance (FTA) or working at a Regional Maintenance Center (RMC)Active or recently held security clearanceExperience working in a forward-deployed or OCONUS operational environment, supporting naval forces in high-tempo, mission-critical settingsCompensation Details$100,000 - 120,000
