OverviewCore Laboratories Inc. is a leading provider of proprietary and patented reservoir description and production enhancement services and products. The Laboratory Manager shall assist the Branch Manager in the responsibilities of the location and ensure the Laboratory Department provides fast, efficient and accurate service to clients while maintaining financial viability, safety, quality of service, employee satisfaction and asset maintenance.Duties & ResponsibilitiesEnsure the Laboratory Department provides fast, efficient and accurate service to clients and maintains client satisfaction to support repeat business.Manage operations at the lowest possible cost while meeting safety, quality of service, employee satisfaction and asset maintenance requirements.Coordinate closely with the Branch Manager, General Manager and other managers on all assignments.Comply with all company procedures as established by Saybolt and Core Laboratories, including but not limited to the HSE Manual, Accounting Policies & Procedures, Saybolt Administration Instruction Letter, IT procedures, Ethics Policy, Saybolt Compliance Code, etc., and stay updated on changes.Report directly to the Branch Manager.QualificationsEducation: Minimum Engineering Bachelor’s degree or Chemical degree, or at least 2 years experience in a similar management position.Good verbal and written knowledge of local language and English.Proficient user of MS Office.ExperienceMinimum of 2 years experience in a leadership position in a laboratory of analysis, preferably within the industry.Familiar with basic financial and customer service principles.CompetenciesTechnical ResponsibilitiesNominationsAcknowledge receipt of nominations promptly.Confirm that nominations are not in the company pre-contact list or have delayed payments.Send order confirmations promptly, including any estimated costs as required.Provide proper instructions to chemists for analyses and offer technical advice to the company or clients when requested, including quality calculations.Draft new test methods and update method changes when necessary, subcontracting and obtaining customer acceptance.Inform all laboratory personnel of changes accordingly.Keep the client updated during the operation and analysis progress and validate test results when needed.Finalize and issue the COA report; keep invoicing coordinator updated with invoicing instructions including estimated costs.Keep client databases updated (GCAS, Navarik, etc.) as required.Ensure all data are processed via company software – Connect.SafetyIn collaboration with the local Safety Officer, ensure all employees follow safety instructions and that premises, equipment and processes conform to the HSE Manual and local safety regulations. Ensure IATA requirements for transportation of samples by air are followed. Ensure equipment in the laboratory is adequately installed to function properly and safely.OrganizationOrganize and coordinate the Laboratory department within the location to meet client and company needs. Ensure all reports, correspondence and documents are properly filed with adequate referencing.FinancialAssist the local accounts department by providing accurate information to prepare company financial reports in time. Assist the Branch Manager and Accountant to prepare the monthly flash report accurately and timely. May request financial information from the accounting department to help organize processes and resources.PersonnelCoordinate all employees in the department; obtain Branch Manager approval for exceptions. Ensure proper training for all employees prior to performance and ongoing monitoring. Maintain training records. Conduct CoreLab Performance Appraisal process for employees under direct control and forward appraisals to the Branch Manager for final approval.Information TechnologyEnsure adequate electronic media are used to facilitate work. Ensure regular data backups to protect company and client information. Cooperate with the IT lead to follow CoreLab IT procedures and protect local IT systems.EnvironmentEnsure location environmental regulations are followed, including sample transport, storage and destruction. Keep records of samples and destruction dates and destroy samples as instructed.SharePointKeep SharePoint updated with location announcements, meetings and information. Track announcements and changes posted on the global Saybolt site.Client RelationsMaintain contact with local and international clients, arrange client visits with the Branch Manager, and keep records of visits. Be alert to new clients and business developments and liaise with the Branch Manager.Complaints & ClaimsImmediately communicate all complaints and claims to the Branch Manager and follow Saybolt instructions. Halt and resume work as needed after deviation investigations and implement corrective/preventive actions.Laboratory TestingMaintain close contact with Branch Manager, Chief Laboratory and Laboratory Quality Manager regarding quality matters. Ensure proper disclaimers on client reports for both inspection and laboratory.Laboratory EquipmentWith Branch Manager approval, purchase new laboratory equipment as needed. Set up new equipment and provide expertise during issues.Price PolicyFor special pricing requests, contact the Branch Manager.Quality AssuranceCooperate with the Quality Manager to keep the location’s quality system active. Ensure the laboratory adheres to ISO17025 and ISO9001 procedures and participate in proficiency testing and other quality programs as needed.MeetingsOrganize regular meetings with all staff and management to inform or discuss matters as appropriate.Special Training AssignmentsMay be asked to prepare training presentations for local and international clients and deliver the training.Other InformationAt any time, the company may assign other duties as deemed necessary. Must be willing to travel between Spain locations and international sites to maintain relationships and feedback processes. Treats sensitive information as confidential.
