Purpose of the Job To lead the Finance function of Berkley Spain, ensuring strong financial governance, transparency, and integrity, while enabling sound, forward looking business decisions. The role is critical in driving portfolio steering, financial insights, and reporting excellence, in alignment with both local business objectives and Continental Europe frameworks. Key Relationships CEO W.R. Berkley Spain (direct reporting line) Continental Europe Finance leadership/team (being part of the European Finance team) Technical Functions (portfolio profitability, reserving inputs, performance insights) Operations (claims payments, billing accuracy, finance related process optimization) External and internal auditors, tax department and local tax authorities Key Responsibilities Financial Governance & Reporting Ensure accurate, timely and transparent financial reporting, aligned with Group and Continental Europe standards. Maintain strong financial controls, ensuring integrity, audit readiness, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Lead the financial close and statutory/tax reporting. Portfolio Steering & Insights Provide a clear view of portfolio profitability by segment, product and customer type. Translate financial and risk data into actionable insights (early warning signals, loss trends, margin erosion, scenario impacts). Partner with Technical Functions to support underwriting, pricing and reserving with high quality financial insights. Financial Operations & Process Excellence Lead accounting, payments, billing accuracy, and finance operations to support a seamless customer journey. Drive simplification, automation, and standardisation of finance processes to increase efficiency and reliability. Ensure alignment with Operations to integrate finance requirements into workflow and system changes. Contribute to European wide financial initiatives, synergies, and best practice sharing. Strategic Partnering & Leadership Advise the CEO and leadership team on financial performance, risks, opportunities, and strategic choices. Support scenario modelling, business cases, investment decisions, and product developments. Represent Spain in cross country financial discussions and governance forums. Lead and develop the Finance team, fostering engagement, accountability, and high performance. Shared Responsibilities Work with HR on payroll governance and employee related financial matters. Collaborate with Shared Services (Tax, Internal Audit, Compliance) to ensure alignment and continuity. Leadership Scope Management Level: Executive Team Member Direct Reports: 4 employees Indirect Reports: 1 trainee (subject to structure) Transversal impact across the whole business and across countries (Spain ↔ CEU). Knowledge And Experience +5 years of experience in Finance roles, preferably in insurance or financial services. Strong expertise in financial reporting, controls, accounting, and regulatory frameworks. Experience working with European or Group wide finance frameworks is desirable. Solid understanding of portfolio performance, profitability drivers and financial analytics. Must-Have Skills Strong financial acumen and analytical insight. Financial modelling and scenario analysis. Excellent command of reporting, accounting processes and financial systems (SAP or similar). Ability to translate financial information into business oriented recommendations. Competencies Strategic, structured, and results driven. Strong influencing skills and ability to partner with senior leaders (local and CEU). Capacity to lead teams through change, build engagement, and drive continuous improvement.
