JOB DESCRIPTION The position is based at IGTP (Institut Germans Trias i Pujol) and is part of a multidisciplinary research team working within the strategic GCAT framework , a population health initiative integrating biological, genomic, epigenomic, proteomic, and clinical data from more than 20,000 participants . The researcher will contribute to the GEUS-COMPASS Project , a collaborative initiative involving IGTP, IDIBELL, and Aniling , focused on cancer research and the identification of epigenetic, genomic, and proteomic biomarkers for early detection and precision medicine. The researcher will work in close collaboration with bioinformaticians , laboratory technicians, and senior researchers to integrate molecular data with advanced computational analyses. This position is designed for a predoctoral profile , offering the opportunity to develop a doctoral thesis in a highly collaborative and translational research environment. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Perform experimental research activities related to molecular, epigenetic, and genomic analyses . Coordinate with bioinformaticians for data processing, integration, and interpretation of omics datasets. Apply laboratory protocols and quality standards in experimental procedures. Participate in data analysis, interpretation of results, and scientific reporting. Contribute to biomarker discovery strategies in cancer and population health research. Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation. Participate in project meetings and collaborative discussions. Develop a doctoral research project aligned with the objectives of GEUS-COMPASS QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCIE The position involves working with the GCAT Project , including leading biobanking activities and management and control of biological sample repositories. Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biomedicine, Biotechnology , or a related life sciences field. Master’s degree completed , with eligibility to enroll in a PhD programme. Previous research experience in molecular biology, epigenetics, or genomics . Familiarity with bioinformatics concepts and collaboration with bioinformatics teams. Knowledge of molecular techniques (e.G. DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, methylation assays, sequencing-based approaches) and bioinformatic analysis Strong motivation to pursue a doctoral thesis . Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment. High knowledge of English for scientific communication. Immediate availability . WHAT WE OFFER Type of contract and working hours: Pre-doctoral contract funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the European Union – NextGenerationEU / Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan , within the framework of the 2024 Public-Private Collaboration call (Project CPP ). Date of incorporation: Immediate incorporation required. Gross remuneration: According to education and research experience, based on the center’s standard salary scales, distributed in 12 monthly payments. Education and training: PhD tuition fees and mandatory academic costs covered , along with access to internal training capsules and research development activities. Flexible benefits: Flexible remuneration options, including childcare vouchers + restaurant. Leave entitlements: 23 working days of annual leave plus 5 days for personal matters + 2 days for Easter + 2 days for Christmas. Its main objective is to increase scientific knowledge in order to transform it into solutions to improve the health and medical care of patients and the community. The Institute is associated with one of the major university hospitals in the Barcelona area, the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital, and is part of the Can Ruti biomedical campus. IGTP is a CERCA centre and is also accredited as a centre of excellence by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) and is in charge of coordinating the management and scientific strategy of the campus, working in close collaboration with the other centres.
